Summary
Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict is the closing entry of the Game Gear Gaiden line, a turn‑based tactical RPG that slots between the original Shining Force and Shining Force II.
The gameplay mirrors its predecessors, featuring grid‑based maps where units take turns moving, attacking, casting spells, and using items. Characters gain experience, can be promoted at level 10, and fallen allies may be resurrected between battles.
Between cutscenes you can save the game, trade weapons, and buy healing items, preserving the quick‑play feel of a handheld strategy title.
Released exclusively in Japan on June 30 1995 for the Game Gear, it never received an official Western launch, but fans later produced English patches for non‑Japanese players. Famitsu gave it an aggregate score of 8/10, 7/10, 7/10, and 7/10.
Storyline
In Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict, the new Shining Force is thrown into a desperate search after Max, the legendary hero of the original Shining Force, vanishes while pursuing the witch Mishaela. Max’s companion Adam, a damaged Ancient‑built robot, is left behind to advise the party, while Max and the swordsman Ridion disappear on the trail of Mishaela’s dark magic. Ian, the newly appointed leader, rallies the remaining members and receives the legendary Chaos Breaker—later renamed the Force Sword—from the righteous King Galam. The group also gains the blind warrior Odd Eye, who once served the devil king Zeon, to bolster their ranks against Mishaela’s cunning and powerful sorcery. Their primary goal becomes locating Max and stopping Mishaela’s unknown plans.
