Storyline

Phantasy Star Gaiden (often just called Gaiden) opens on the colony world Copto, a settlement Alis Landale founded after the events of the original Phantasy Star. Long ago the planet was ravaged by an evil being known as Cablon, later referred to as Kaburon, which Alis managed to seal away on a hidden world later discovered as Alisland.

Four centuries later the story follows two youths from the village of Tedo—Alec and Minina. Minina uncovers an ancient artifact, and soon after Alec’s father is attacked and kidnapped by bandits, prompting the pair to set out on a perilous quest to rescue him. Their journey takes them far beyond their home, eventually bringing them face‑to‑face with the sealed evil and the legendary heroine herself, who has been in cryogenic sleep awaiting Kaburon’s return.

After reuniting with Alis and helping to secure the seal once more, the heroes save Copto, but the ending hints that the darkness will rise again in Algol, setting the stage for the events of Phantasy Star II.
