Summary

The Game Gear version of Paperboy brings the classic paper‑delivery chaos to a handheld screen, keeping the signature oblique‑angle view that lets you see the whole street at once. You start by picking one of three difficulty levels—Easy Street, Middle Road, or Hard Way—each boosting the point values two‑ or three‑fold, which instantly changes how aggressively you chase high scores.

Each route is a 20‑house stretch, with half the homes painted in bright colors to mark them as paying subscribers. Your job is to fling papers onto porches or into mailboxes while dodging cars, skateboarders and rolling tires, and you can even earn extra points by smashing non‑subscriber windows or hitting obstacles with your throws. Paper bundles litter the road, so you must restock on the fly, and any missed or damaged subscriber house will cancel its service.

After the delivery run you’re whisked onto a training course where papers are unlimited and the focus shifts to hitting targets and using ramps to clear walls and ditches. Crashing here ends the run instantly but doesn’t cost a life, while on the main route each collision costs you one. The game cycles through seven days—from Monday to Sunday—each day adding a new level, and the Sunday papers are heavier, making them travel slower when tossed. The session wraps up when you run out of lives, lose all subscriptions, or finish the Sunday training, at which point any remaining lives net you a final bonus.

Storyline

Paperboy on the Game Gear drops you into the shoes of a classic paper delivery kid. You ride a bicycle down a typical American suburb, aiming to toss copies of the fictional "The Daily Sun" onto each doorstep. The game’s streets are lined with houses that react to your timing, rewarding precise throws and punishing missed drops. The whole experience captures the everyday hustle of a suburban paperboy in the United States, turning a simple route into a fast‑paced challenge.
