Summary

Moldorian: Hikari to Yami no Sister is a hidden gem on the Game Gear, delivering a fantasy RPG experience that feels surprisingly deep for a handheld of its era. The game’s pixel art is remarkably detailed, rendering lush environments and expressive characters within the system’s limited palette. Combat breaks the usual turn‑based mold with a quirky, timing‑based mechanic that rewards precise inputs. Adding to the atmosphere, Hitoshi Sakimoto’s soundtrack weaves memorable melodies that still hold up today. For anyone hunting obscure 90s titles, this Sega‑crafted adventure is worth a look.

Storyline

Moldorian: Hikari to Yami no Sister (often just called Moldorian) opens in the quiet village of Keuzon, a settlement tucked inside the Human Realm of Moldoria. The story follows Navarre, a boy constantly labeled a coward and weakling by his peers, whose only true ally is his childhood friend Miria. One day, after being taunted by another village youth, Navarre convinces Miria to explore a nearby cave in a desperate bid to prove his worth.

Inside the darkness, they unwittingly stumble into a larger conflict as shadowy forces stir across the land. The cave becomes the gateway to an adventure that will thrust Navarre far beyond the limits of his imagination, forcing him to confront the very darkness threatening Moldoria.
