Summary
Magical Taruruto-kun is a charming “cute‑em‑up” that landed on the Sega Game Gear in the early ’90s. It draws directly from Tatsuya Egawa’s whimsical manga and the Toei‑animated TV series that aired from 1990 to 1992.
Players guide the titular boy‑wizard through colorful, scrolling stages that feel like a portable version of the anime’s slap‑stick magic. The graphics are bright and the enemies are deliberately goofy, reinforcing the light‑hearted tone of the source material.
Developed by Tsukuda Ideal, the game captures the series’ playful spirit while offering a quick, pick‑up‑and‑play experience perfect for handheld sessions.
Storyline
In Tokyo, a Grade‑5 outcast named Honmaru Edojo struggles with school life. He’s a mischievous kid who secretly loves the smart, pretty Iyona Kawai, but he’s constantly humiliated by the bully Jabao Jaba, Jabao’s sidekick Korekiyo Ryouguchiya, and Iyona’s mean‑spirited friend Rui Ijigawa. One especially rough day, Honmaru’s despair peaks and he accidentally summons the great wizard Taruruto. The two quickly become friends, and Taruruto uses his magical powers to help Honmaru cope with his hardships and the daily challenges at school. Later, new troublemakers arrive: the narcissistic Tsutomu Harako and the troublesome twin duo Neyo and Nezo Zakenja. Meanwhile, the dark wizard Rivar plots to eradicate Taruruto, hoping to distract the fellow young wizard Mimora, who is hopelessly in love with Taruruto. All of this unfolds in the Game Gear title Magical Taluluto‑kun.
