Summary

Madou Monogatari III: Kyuukyoku Joou-sama hit the Game Gear in Japan on November 25, 1994 as a sequel to Madou Monogatari II, and Sega later re‑released it on the Project EGG service in January 2024 under the English‑friendly title “Madō Monogatari III The Ultimate Queen.” The Japanese name, *究極女王様*, literally means “The Ultimate Queen,” and the game is essentially a remake of the third installment of the series’ 1‑2‑3 saga.

What sets this RPG apart is its abstract approach to stats: instead of numbers, characters show their condition through facial expressions and sprite changes. Physical attacks don’t exist; every encounter is resolved with one of four elements—Fire, Ice Storm, Thunder or Bayoen—and enemies often have a hidden elemental weakness that the player must discover. Even without an English translation, the quirky design still feels fresh for anyone diving into a mid‑90s handheld experiment.
