Summary
Madou Monogatari A: Doki-doki Vacation is a little-known RPG that shipped for Sega’s Game Gear in Japan on 24 November 1995. As part of Compile’s Madou Monogatari series, it reimagines the opening chapter of the A‑R‑S saga in a quirky, pixel‑art adventure. The title – loosely translated as “Excited Vacation” – hints at its light‑hearted tone and colorful dungeon‑crawling gameplay. Though it never received an official English version, the game resurfaced on the Project EGG retro‑distribution service in February 2024 under the simpler name Madō Monogatari A, making it accessible to modern players via emulation. Its limited release and lack of translation have turned it into a curious relic for collectors hunting obscure handheld RPGs.
Storyline
Madou Monogatari A: Doki‑doki Vacation, commonly shortened to Doki‑doki Vacation, follows Arle during her summer vacation. She drops by her grandmother’s house and spends time exploring the surrounding forest.
While wandering, Arle learns that a construction company led by Satan plans to clear the woods for a new recreational area. Determined to protect the trees, she sets out to confront Satan’s crew. The intro even features Skeleton‑T, Sasori Man, and Suketoudara as members of the construction staff, chasing Arle deeper into the forest as the adventure begins.
