Summary

Honoo no Toukyuuji: Dodge Danpei started out as a quirky Japanese manga about dodgeball, penned by Tetsuhiro Koshita and serialized in the kid‑friendly pages of CoroCoro Comic. The series captured the chaotic energy of schoolyard games, turning a simple sport into a comedic battle of wits and reflexes.

Its popularity sparked an anime run from 1991 to 1992, and the momentum didn’t stop there—eight different video game adaptations followed, each trying to translate the frantic dodgeball action onto consoles and handhelds.

The franchise kept evolving, and in late 2022 a sequel titled Honō no Tōkyūjo: Dodge Danko launched on the Weekly CoroCoro Comic website. The new series quickly earned a spot on the 2023 Next Manga Award shortlist in the web manga category, proving that the dodgeball craze still has plenty of bounce for modern readers.
