Summary

Arch Rivals, often billed as "A Basket Brawl," made its way onto the Game Gear as a portable slice of 90s arcade chaos. The handheld version kept the core two‑on‑two street‑ball formula, letting you punch opponents, snatch the ball with a "flying leap," and even tumble over soda cans or candy wrappers that litter the court. Each of the eight quirky characters brings a signature move, and the game’s referee only watches the shot clock, so you can focus on the brawl. A hidden "Hometown Heroes" tweak lets arcade operators rename teams, a feature that survived in the portable port, letting you rename the Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Natural High and Brawl State squads. While the Game Gear’s graphics are a step down from the arcade cabinet, the fast‑paced action and over‑the‑top humor—like the occasional underwear reveal during a missed leap—still make it a nostalgic must‑play for anyone who loves a good basketball rumble.
