Summary

Zoop is a fast‑paced, real‑time puzzle where you control a colored triangle in the centre and fire at incoming blocks that crawl from the screen edges. Each shot either swaps your triangle’s colour with the target or clears a chain of matching colours, sending points cascading outward. When a block of your colour reaches the centre the level ends, but if any piece slips into the middle square the game is over.

The game spices things up with special tiles – a lightning‑bolt bomb wipes a 3×3 area, while a gear‑shaped line bomb erases an entire row. As you meet quotas the speed ramps up and the background shifts into increasingly busy “Opti‑Challenge” patterns that were marketed as a visual distraction technique. The cartoonish sound effects and evolving smooth‑jazz soundtrack keep the tension high as the pace quickens.

The Game Boy version is the only one that adds a multiplayer mode, letting two players battle on the same screen. Zoop’s bright colour scheme, quirky audio and relentless tempo earned it the slogan “America’s Largest Killer of Time” and a brief spot in the mid‑90s puzzle craze.
