Summary

Zettai Muteki Raijinou is a quirky one‑on‑one mecha fighter that feels like stepping into a low‑budget Japanese B‑movie. You pilot a hulking robot and face off against eight towering creatures of darkness, each battle echoing the over‑the‑top duels of classic Ultraman shows. The control scheme is deceptively simple—just an attack and a jump button—but relying on the basic punch quickly turns the fight into a slog, as opponents cling stubbornly to three or four life bars. The real trick lies in the hidden Select menu, where you can swap out your robot’s Weapon, tweak its Body, or even Combine parts for a fresh strategy. Though originally released only in Japan, a dedicated fan community later crafted an English patch, letting a wider audience finally experience this off‑beat title.

Storyline

In Zettai Muteki Raijinou, the sinister Evil Empire (Jāku Teikoku) bursts onto Earth from the Fifth Dimension, launching a missile that rains down Akudamas—dark eggs that hatch into annoying‑themed Evil Beasts. The guardian of light, Eldran, intervenes with his heroic robot Raijin‑Oh, but the missile detonates against him, sending Raijin‑Oh crashing into Hinobori City and the nearby Hinobori Academy elementary school. Eldran departs to continue his cosmic duties, leaving the fifth‑grade Earth Defense Class in charge of the robot and granting each child a specific role while the school itself transforms into a mobile command center.

Jin, Asuka, and Kouji become the primary pilots of Raijin‑Oh, juggling daily school life—Jin’s refusal to study is met with relentless tickling from his friends—while battling the ever‑growing horde of Evil Beasts. When the villains Belzeb and Taida acquire Jaku Satan and upgrade the monsters into Super Evil Beasts, the auxiliary mecha Bakuryuu‑Oh appears, and the two robots combine into the mighty God Raijin‑Oh. This ultimate form is used to confront Emperor Warusa and finally put an end to the Evil Empire’s conquest.
