Summary

WWF Superstars on the Game Boy lets you step into the ring as one of five iconic wrestlers—Hulk Hogan, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Ted "The Million Dollar Man" DiBiase, or Mr. Perfect. Each character shares a solid core moveset—punches, kicks, bodyslams, suplexes, headlocks with punches, clotheslines and dropkicks—while still flaunting a signature strike that feels uniquely theirs. Before every bout the chosen superstar cuts a short promo, and after the match Vince McMahon pops in with a comment tailored to the opponent, adding a surprisingly cinematic touch for a handheld title.

The game runs on a ground‑up engine built by Rare, deliberately avoiding the more complex systems of the console versions, which gives it a crisp, fast‑paced feel. You can wrestle outside the ropes, toss an opponent over the turnbuckle, or even launch a dropkick through the ropes for extra damage—once per match, but it’s a game‑changer. The Game Boy Gamelink also supports head‑to‑head play, so I’ve spent countless evenings battling friends, each trying to claim the WWF World Heavyweight Champion title and unlock a portrait of their chosen star.
