Summary

Turrican on the Game Boy packs the same sprawling, non‑linear action that made the original a cult classic. The Code Monkeys translated the four massive worlds—ranging from underwater caverns to neon‑lit cities—into almost a thousand tiny screens, each bristling with hidden passages and bonus rooms that reward careful exploration. Inspired by Metroid’s morph‑ball mechanic and the weapon design of Psycho‑Nics Oscar, the handheld version lets you glide through tight corridors, then unleash an arsenal that includes a blaster, powerlines, a lightning whip and photon grenades. Accolade’s North‑American release (and its European counterpart) keeps the fast‑paced run‑and‑gun feel while squeezing the experience into the Game Boy’s modest hardware. It feels like a full‑metal adventure with attitude, all in the palm of your hand.

Storyline

Turrican on Game Boy thrusts you into the abandoned lost colony of Alterra, a man‑made world of five self‑contained habitats engineered by a system called MORGUL. A cataclysmic earthquake crippled the MORGUL network, causing it to turn hostile and twist the planet’s life forms into blood‑draining, bio‑mutated killers. Genetic science then created Turrican, a mutant Chromidium Warrior, to reclaim the colony and put an end to the threat.

Your mission is to explore each multi‑level world, eradicate the hostile organisms, and finally confront the three faces of MORGUL itself. As the cockiest, coolest warrior, Turrican battles through twisted ecosystems to restore Alterra to its original purpose.
