Summary
Turok: Battle of the Bionosaurs feels like a compact tribute to its N64 sibling, packed into the tiny Game Boy screen. The action platformer hands me eight distinct stages, each shifting between classic side‑scroll and half‑bird’s‑eye views, so I’m constantly adapting my approach. A password system lets me pick up where I left off, and the menu even offers English, French, Spanish, or German text for a surprisingly global experience.
Exploration is a core loop; hidden items litter the terrain, rewarding me for thorough searching and encouraging back‑tracking once I unlock new abilities. Combat is equally varied—I can slash with knives, fire bows, or unleash assorted guns, letting the gameplay stay fresh across the mixed‑perspective levels. Knowing it was designed as a companion piece to the Nintendo 64’s Turok: Dinosaur Hunter adds a nice layer of continuity for fans.
Storyline
Turok: Battle of the Bionosaurs (often just called Turok on the Game Boy) follows the same storyline as its console counterpart, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. You play as Tal'Set, a Native American warrior who inherits the title of Turok each generation, charged with guarding the barrier between Earth and the primitive Lost Land where time has no meaning.
The Lost Land is populated by dinosaurs and alien creatures. An evil overlord called the Campaigner hunts the ancient Chronoscepter. The scepter was shattered into eight fragments to keep it safe. He plans to use a focusing array to amplify its power, shatter the time barriers and dominate the universe. Turok swears to recover every piece and thwart the Campaigner’s scheme.
