Summary
Trip World puts you in the fuzzy paws of Yakopoo, a bunny‑like oddball tasked with returning a stolen peace flower. The title shines thanks to its quirky shapeshifting system: a basic kicking form, a winged version that lets you glide, and an aquatic fish‑form that swims and sprays foam. Hidden fruit power‑ups also trigger temporary costumes such as Flower Yakopoo, letting you stun foes with seeds. The five distinct worlds—ranging from a snowy mountain to a surreal castle—offer branching routes and boss‑filled conclusions, and most enemies merely push you instead of hurting you on contact.
Critics have praised the Game Boy’s crisp graphics and catchy soundtrack, though they note the game leans toward easy and finishes quickly. Originally a Japan‑only release, the cartridge resurfaced on the 3DS Virtual Console in Europe, and retro sites frequently rank it among the handheld’s hidden gems.
Storyline
Trip World is set in a tranquil realm where the bunny‑like Shabubu Yakopoo lives with his grandfather on Mount Dubious, home of the magical Maita Flower, a symbol of peace.
When shadowy creatures assault the old Shabubu, steal the flower and plunge the land into chaos, Yakopoo embarks on a quest. He journeys through Mount Dubious, Savage Land, Ireland and Pudding Land, defeating each area’s boss.
The trail leads to Mirror Land, where the king—another Shabubu—has taken the flower, possessed by an unknown blossom. After battling the king’s minions and a robot‑piloted king, the queen reveals she hid the Maita Flower. With the king freed, the flower is returned to the holy mountain, restoring peace to Trip World.
