Summary

Toy Story on Game Boy delivers a side‑scrolling adventure that puts you in Woody’s boots as you sneak through Sid’s chaotic workshop. The core gimmick is using the alien toys to yank you free from the dreaded claw, turning each of the ten compact levels into a puzzle‑platforming sprint.

Developed by Tiertex Design Studios and launched in May 1996, the title is a stripped‑down platformer that later resurfaced in the 2026 Toy Story: Retro Roundup! compilation, giving a new generation a chance to revisit its pixel‑perfect charm.

Critical chatter was sparse; GamePro labeled the experience “plodding and repetitive,” pointing out its rudimentary graphics and even a mis‑drawn Woody drawstring, awarding it a modest 13.5 / 20. Still, the game’s simple premise and colorful world keep it enjoyable for players of any age.

Storyline

Toy Story on Game Boy lets you guide Woody through a side‑scrolling adventure that follows the film’s entire plot. Players swing Woody’s pull‑string whip to tie up foes, latch onto hooks, and even defeat the boss Nightmare Buzz permanently.

The game mixes genres: two overhead stages put you in control of R.C., one where Woody knocks Buzz out a window and another racing back to a moving truck, both requiring careful battery‑power management. A first‑person maze inside a claw machine challenges Woody to collect alien squeaky toys and return them to the play area before time runs out.

You’ll trek through Andy’s house, sneak into Sid’s workshop, and enlist the alien friends to free yourself from the claw, all while navigating the familiar Toy Story world in this handheld classic.
