Summary

Tetris 2, known in Japan as Tetris Flash, was crafted by the modest studio Tose and released under Nintendo’s banner for the Game Boy after its NES debut. The handheld version carries the same quirky twist that set the game apart from its block‑stacking ancestors. Instead of clearing full lines, you line up three squares of the same hue, causing them to vanish in a Dr. Mario‑style cascade; even the tetromino shapes break the usual rules, with some squares touching only at the corners. Nintendo Power praised this version as a surprisingly tough action puzzle, especially when you hook two Game Boys together with a Link Cable for head‑to‑head matches. The magazine did note the graphics felt a bit bland and that the concept didn’t stray far enough from classic Tetris or Dr. Mario, but the color‑matching challenge still gave the portable puzzler its own quirky charm.
