Summary
Takahashi Meijin no Bouken Jima II (the Game Boy version of Adventure Island II) feels like a fresh spin on the classic platform formula. Before each stage I can pick which rescued dinosaur buddy to bring along and whether to stash a stone hammer in my inventory, turning the usual power‑up routine into a tiny strategic decision. Hidden eggs whisper their location with a distinct sound, and cracking them yields keys that open bonus rooms, shortcut passages, or even an item stash. The game trades the old checkpoint system for a clean‑slate restart, but it compensates with shorter, more varied levels—including underwater stretches and vertical‑scrolling sections that demand a different rhythm. Backtracking is possible, though only up to a certain point, and the bosses are fickle: defeat one and it will relocate, forcing an extra stage before the showdown. What really stands out are the four dinosaur companions, each summoned by a playing‑card suit hidden in an egg. The blue camptosaurus skates on ice, the red one breathes fire and tolerates lava, the pteranodon soars and drops stones, and the elasmosaurus swims effortlessly underwater. Combined with sharper graphics and a handy map screen, these quirks make the handheld adventure feel surprisingly deep for its era.

Eight treacherous islands are each ruled by different monster minions, but four friendly dinosaurs are willing to aid any adventurer brave enough to challenge the foes. These dino allies provide crucial support as Higgins battles through the varied hazards of each isle.
With Tina’s safety and the Witch Doctor’s tyranny hanging in the balance, Master Higgins presses onward, hoping his beloved will be grateful when he finally defeats the oppressors and brings her home.
