Summary

T2: The Arcade Game landed on the Game Boy as a stripped‑down version of Midway’s original light‑gun shooter. The handheld’s limited screen forces the action to shift from the arcade’s first‑person, photorealistic view to a side‑ and top‑scroll layout, but the core feel of blasting waves of Terminators remains. Even with the pixel‑crunch, the port sneaks in a few musical cues lifted straight from the arcade’s Narc soundtrack, giving the experience a surprisingly gritty edge. Power‑ups still pop up, and the unlimited ammo mechanic is retained, though a simple on‑screen gauge now throttles the machine‑gun’s fire rate when you hold down the trigger. For anyone who loved the arcade’s frantic pace, the Game Boy version manages to capture the essence of the original while embracing the handheld’s quirks.

Storyline

T2: The Arcade Game for the Game Boy follows the film’s plot, putting the player in the shoes of a captured T‑800 that the human resistance has reprogrammed. In 2029 the cyborg teams up with John and Sarah Connor to infiltrate Skynet’s headquarters, destroy the central CPU and seize the time‑displacement device. The T‑800 is then sent back to John’s childhood to guard him from the relentless T‑1000, which pursues the trio in a police helicopter and a liquid‑nitrogen truck. Using liquid nitrogen, the T‑800 can freeze and shatter the liquid‑metal assassin, though it quickly reforms and continues its chase. The final showdown ends with the T‑800 blasting the T‑1000 into molten steel, and the game offers two possible endings: one where the Cyberdyne raid destroys all equipment and averts Judgment Day, and another where the research survives, leaving the future uncertain.
