Summary

Sumo Fighter: Tōkaidō Basho, released on the Game Boy and simply called Sumo Fighter in the West, feels like a quirky workout for your thumbs. You start by picking Heiseiyama and can grind experience to unlock four signature moves – a slapping harite, a quake‑inducing shiko, a charging buchikamashi and a toss‑ready nage that lets you hurl stunned foes. The game splits into five regions, each with three stages and a boss, plus a one‑time bonus round that swaps the sumo ring for thumb‑wrestling, arm‑wrestling or even paper‑sumo duels. Clearing a stage hands you a password, and beating hard mode unlocks a Super mode that throws tougher enemies and extra boss tricks at you. To see every ending and credit, you’ll need to finish the adventure on easy, hard and Super, proving you can’t truly grow as a sumo wrestler without a lot of practice.

Storyline

Sumou Fighter – Toukaidou Basho follows Bontaro Heiseiyama as he journeys along the historic Tōkaidō route, the eastern sea road that linked Edo (now Tokyo) to Kyoto. His mission is to reach Kyoto and rescue Kayo, driving the game’s narrative forward.
