Summary

Quarth (known in Japan as Block Hole) fuses the falling‑block feel of Tetris with the fixed‑shooter vibe of Space Invaders. You pilot a tiny ship at the bottom of the screen, firing blocks upward to turn the descending, irregular shapes into complete squares or rectangles, which then vanish and award points based on their size. As each level progresses the blocks drop faster and more frequently, and occasional power‑ups can boost your ship’s speed or grant other bonuses. The game ends when the pile reaches the dotted line at the bottom, crushing your vessel flat – a fate the manuals call being ‘quarthed.’ Multiplayer on the Game Boy requires a link cable, with each player viewing only their own field. The title later resurfaced on the 3DS Virtual Console, and Nintendo Life scored it 6/10, praising its fun core mechanic while noting a tendency toward repetition.
