Summary

The Game Boy version of Qix keeps the original’s tense line‑drawing challenge while fitting snugly onto a handheld screen. You steer a diamond‑shaped marker along the border, then press either the “Slow Draw” or “Fast Draw” button to lay down a Stix in unclaimed space, racing against the wandering Qix and its buzzing Sparx companions. If the Qix or a Sparx touches an unfinished Stix, the fuse that trails behind you ignites and a life is lost, so timing and precision become a constant tug‑of‑war.

What makes this port stand out are the quirky intermissions: Mario, Luigi and Princess Peach pop up in brief scenes—one even dons a Mexican‑style outfit and strums a guitar, a look later recycled for Super Mario Odyssey. The title resurfaced on the 3DS Virtual Console in 2011, giving a new generation a chance to experience the addictive “Etch‑A‑Sketch” style gameplay that has kept Qix alive for decades.
