Summary

Phantom Air Mission drops you straight into the cockpit of a Navy F‑14 Tomcat, the iconic fighter that earned its fame in the Persian Gulf War. The Game Boy’s tiny screen is packed with a fully instrumented control panel, complete with a HUD that lets you lock onto enemies, a radar for situational awareness, and a landing display that guides you back to the carrier deck. You can spin the jet a full 360 degrees, giving you the freedom to chase down targets from any angle. Arm the wing‑mounted 50 mm cannons or fire the long‑range AIM‑54 missiles, and when the enemy’s missiles start homing in, engage the ECM system to scramble their guidance. The game even simulates carrier operations, letting you launch, land, and refuel in mid‑air without breaking the flow. All of this feels surprisingly immersive for a handheld from the early ’90s, turning the Game Boy into a miniature aerial combat arena.
