Summary

Pang, known in the West as Buster Bros., brings a globe‑trotting arcade feel to the Game Boy in a surprisingly deep package. Each of the 50 stages is set in a distinct locale—think Mount Fuji’s snow‑capped peaks, the shadowy arches of Angkor Wat, the neon glow of New York, or the icy expanse of Antarctica—so the background art constantly reminds you where you are while you chase bouncing balloons.

The core loop is simple yet addictive: pop balloons with a single harpoon, watch the biggest ones split three times before shrinking to nothing, and collect the occasional power‑up that drops from a burst. You can upgrade to a Double Wire for twin shots, a Power Wire that latches to ceilings, or a rapid‑fire Vulcan Missile, and there’s never a ammo shortage. Defensive bonuses like force fields, hourglasses that slow the balls, or clocks that freeze them give brief breathing room, while a dynamite blast shrinks every balloon on screen at once.

Scoring isn’t just about survival; food items appear mid‑stage, climbing from a few hundred points to a 48,000‑point cake slice, then alternating with 50,000‑point slices. Lives start at three to five depending on the dip switch, with extra lives awarded at set score thresholds, keeping the tension high as you race through world‑famous landmarks on a tiny handheld screen.

Storyline

In Pang for Game Boy, the Buster brothers embark on a round‑the‑world quest to rid the planet of bouncing balloons that are terrorising famous landmarks and cities. The adventure kicks off on Mount Fuji in Japan, where they must clear three distinct stages before the journey can continue.

Each subsequent location presents similar balloon‑filled challenges, taking the duo across a variety of global sites. After conquering the final stage, the brothers drive their jeep onto an Easter Island beach, riding off into the sunset as the Earth is finally safe.
