Summary

Olympic Summer Games, the final Olympic title to hit the original Game Boy and the last of its era on fourth‑generation hardware, builds on the button‑mashing formula that made its predecessors a party staple. The handheld version packs ten events—everything from the 100‑metre sprint to skeet shooting—while letting you pick from eight preset athletes or create your own competitor with a custom name and nationality.

You can tackle the full Olympic mode or a quicker "mini‑Olympics" custom game, and three difficulty levels keep the challenge fresh. The old points table is gone; instead you chase medals, with sprint qualifiers whittling the field down to a single winner and field events offering three attempts before the top ten earn three extra jumps or throws.

The roster of nations is impressively global, ranging from the United States to Angola, and the game even made it onto PlayStation, 3DO and a completed but unreleased Saturn version. Critics praised the frantic mash‑and‑timing core but lamented bland graphics, thin sound effects and low frame rates, especially on the 16‑bit consoles. Still, for anyone who loves a good retro sports showdown, the Game Boy’s version remains a nostalgic sprint toward the podium.
