Summary

Mickey's Ultimate Challenge turns the Game Boy into a tiny Disney puzzle arena where you guide Mickey (or even Minnie) through a series of brain‑teasers that feel surprisingly deep for a handheld. Each room of the castle becomes a distinct mini‑game, and the only way forward is to solve the puzzle and earn a token from a familiar character.

In the Sorting Books room, floating tomes drift up and down the library and you must hop onto them in alphabetical order. The alphabet slice changes with difficulty, and once you line them up correctly Horace Horsecollar hands you a reward.

Moving Potions shrinks Mickey to a chess‑board size; you push potion bottles around block obstacles until they reach a magic mirror, then grow back to normal and collect a gift from a wizard‑costumed Donald.

Picture Matching is a timed memory test where you dust off portrait pairs before the castle lights go out, while Playing the Pipes asks you to repeat an ever‑growing melody by jumping on the correct pipes, earning a token from Huey, Dewey and Louie.

The final brain‑twister, Guess the Tools, lets you interrogate Goofy’s toolbox with seven guesses, using color‑coded clues to pinpoint the right items. Reviewers were split, but Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the Game Boy version a respectable 6.75/10, noting the puzzles are easy yet enjoyable for younger players.

Storyline

In Mickey's Ultimate Challenge for Game Boy, Mickey falls asleep after reading a fairy‑tale book and dreams of a mysterious rumbling over the Castle of Beanwick. The citizens of Beanwick are panicking, shouting that the sky is rumbling and asking what could be causing it. Mickey (or sometimes Minnie) volunteers to investigate, promising to search every room of the castle to uncover the source of the trouble.

Inside the castle he must complete a series of challenges in different rooms, each yielding a seemingly useless item. Those items are then returned to the proper owners, who find them surprisingly helpful, and for each correct placement Mickey receives a magic bean. Collecting all five beans is required before he can use them.

After the items are delivered, Mickey heads to the well where the rumbling starts again and he tosses the beans into the water. A gigantic beanstalk shoots up into the clouds, leading him to a sleeping giant whose loud snoring is the source of Beanwick’s woes. Mickey slides puzzle pieces to unscramble an alarm‑clock picture beside the giant, wakes him, and talks him into stopping the snoring. With the giant calm, the castle’s rumble ceases and peace returns to Beanwick.
