Summary

The Game Boy version of Lemmings 2: The Tribes feels like a serious step down from its home‑console counterpart. With only a d‑pad for input, the precise timing the series demands becomes a real juggling act, and the lack of extra buttons strips away many of the shortcuts I’m used to. The handheld’s modest processor forces the graphics into a much cruder style, shrinking the playfield so that you can see only a tiny slice of the level at a time. This reduced view means you have to guess a lot more about upcoming hazards, which adds an unintended layer of difficulty. Even the soundtrack suffers; the original score is re‑imagined as simple chiptunes that fit the Game Boy’s sound chip, losing much of the original’s atmosphere while still managing to be catchy in its own retro way.
