Summary

Last Action Hero on Game Boy drops you into a pure side‑scrolling beat‑'em‑up where the only weapons are your fists. The game stays true to the film’s gimmick of hopping between the real world and the movie set, and it even throws in two distinct car‑chase stages—one racing through Jack Slater’s on‑screen universe and another tearing through Danny Madigan’s everyday streets. True to its console siblings, there are no guns or other ranged weapons, and the final showdown with Mr. Benedict is conspicuously absent. Instead, you become the star yourself, blasting back and forth between reality and the silver screen as Arnold’s alter‑ego. Sony Imagesoft oversaw the production to keep the experience in line with the movie’s over‑the‑top action, and the title was released alongside versions for NES, SNES, Genesis and more. The result is a fast‑paced, arcade‑style adventure that captures the film’s tongue‑in‑cheek heroics without ever needing a firearm.

Storyline

Last Action Hero on Game Boy follows the film’s premise, putting movie star Jack Slater and his biggest fan Danny Madigan at the center of the action. Armed with a magic movie ticket, the duo can jump between the fictional movie world and Danny’s real‑world setting, triggering wild chases and deadly fights. The game features two distinct car‑chase sequences – one set inside Jack’s on‑screen adventure and another taking place on the streets of the real world. While most versions of the game culminate in a showdown with the villainous Mr. Benedict, the Game Boy edition omits this final encounter, leaving the climactic battle out of the handheld experience.
