Summary

The Game Boy port of Killer Instinct squeezes the arcade’s signature double‑health‑bar system into a handheld format, forcing players to drain two life bars before claiming victory. Even with the limited button layout, the game retains auto‑doubles and combo breakers, letting you string together preset combos or interrupt an opponent’s sequence on the fly. Finishing moves survive the transition too—each fighter still boasts a No Mercy (later called Danger Move), a Humiliation, and an Ultra Combo that can unleash a surprisingly long hit string. Notably, the portable version drops Cinder and Riptor and trims many moves to fit the Game Boy’s controls, which explains the harsher reviews it received. It does support Super Game Boy coloring and even offers two‑player versus matches when you plug a second controller into the console.

Storyline

In the Game Boy version of Killer Instinct, the shadowy megacorporation Ultratech runs a secret fighting tournament. It invites regular combatants and also fields its own experimental creatures, using the event as a proving ground for their power.

After discovering a way to bridge dimensions, Ultratech opens a portal to Limbo and unleashes a two‑headed cyclops‑satyr hybrid known as Eyedol, adding a terrifying new challenger to the roster.
