Summary

Jurassic Park on Game Boy feels like a compact slice of the 1993 film’s tension, wrapped in a top‑down shooter that mirrors its NES counterpart. The handheld version adds a neat dinosaur database, letting you flip through facts about the creatures you’re dodging – a little encyclopedia that feels surprisingly modern for a cartridge.

Gameplay revolves around scavenging scattered guns to blast common dinos while the hulking T. rex looms as an unavoidable menace you must out‑run. Mystery boxes pepper the levels, offering everything from extra health and temporary invincibility to sudden life loss, keeping each run unpredictable. You’re limited to three lives and four continues, so every misstep feels costly.

Critics at the time praised the sprite work, especially how the dinosaurs looked on the tiny screen, and noted the genuine sense of danger that echoes the movie. Nintendo Power called the aiming awkward, but still gave the game a solid nod for its overall fun factor.

Decades later the title resurfaced in the Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection, re‑issued on modern consoles and even as a re‑pressed Game Boy cartridge, proving the handheld’s charm still holds up for retro fans.

Storyline

In Jurassic Park for Game Boy, Dr. Alan Grant finds himself trapped on Isla Nublar after a computer malfunction cuts power to the park, leaving the dinosaurs free to roam. The game follows Grant as he navigates the island, completing a series of missions that ultimately lead to his escape without falling prey to the prehistoric predators.

Grant’s objectives include rescuing Lex and Tim, the grandchildren of park owner John Hammond, reactivating the park’s computer systems, and destroying Velociraptor nests with time‑bombs. After locating the children, he must place the explosives to clear the dangerous nests before moving on.

The final stretch sees Grant reaching the dock, using a radio to call for help, and then making his way to a helipad where he is finally rescued. The game concludes with a small stage displaying the developers’ names and an exit that lets the player end the experience.
