Summary
High Stakes Gambling drops you into a 1930s Great Depression backdrop where every table is a battlefield of wits. You face five escalating Mafia opponents, each guarding a mission that strings together three preliminary casino games—blackjack, slots, and video poker—before the final showdown of five‑card draw poker. Starting each round with a $10,000 bankroll, a win nets you another $10,000 and five draw‑poker points, while a loss leaves you cash‑less and with only two points, making every decision feel high‑risk. A practice mode throws craps into the mix, even though it never appears in the main missions, and a shady shop lets you purchase cheating tools to tip the odds in your favor—though the gangsters crank up their own cheating when your funds dwindle. Nintendo Power gave the title a 3.4/5 in March 1992, and Allgame rated it 3.5 stars, reflecting its solid yet niche appeal for handheld casino fans.
Storyline
In the Game Boy title High Stakes, you step into the shoes of FBI agent Pete Rosetti, who goes deep undercover as an intrepid gambler. His cover lets him infiltrate the mob’s high‑rolling circles and get close to the biggest players.
Rosetti’s goal is simple but daring: win a string of gambling games that strip the Mafia of its wealth, turning the once‑filthy‑rich syndicate into dirt‑poor targets. By bankrupting them, he creates the perfect opening to bring the criminals to justice and secure their arrests.
