Summary

Fortified Zone lets you hop between two mercenaries, each embodying a classic offense‑defense split: Masato handles all the heavy special weapons but stays grounded, while Mizuki can leap over obstacles at the cost of firepower. The top‑down shoot‑‘em‑up rolls through four sprawling stages—Field, Jungle, Caves and Complex—each packed with pick‑ups like medical packs, flamethrowers, grenades, rocket launchers, 3‑way machine guns and chain guns. At the end of every area a distinct boss awaits, ranging from a cannon installation to a super‑tank, a dragon, a bulldozer and finally a massive assault vehicle. Originally a 1991 Game Boy launch, the title resurfaced on the 3DS Virtual Console in 2011, and it spawned two sequels in Japan, one on the Game Boy and another on the Super Famicom (released abroad as Operation Logic Bomb).

Storyline

Fortified Zone follows two mercenaries, Masato Kanzaki and Mizuki Makimura, as they breach a heavily defended installation. Their mission forces them to battle rival mercenaries, soldiers, hostile robots and even monsters that guard the area. The duo pushes deeper toward the core of the complex, where a final objective awaits. Their goal is to destroy the central complex at the heart of the fortified zone, ending the threat. The game’s narrative is a straightforward, action‑driven trek through a literal fortified zone.
