Summary
Earthworm Jim on the Game Boy throws you into a fast‑paced, 2‑D side‑scrolling platformer where I control Jim – an ordinary earthworm outfitted with a bulky robotic suit. The suit’s gun handles most threats, but Jim can also lash enemies with his worm body, swing from hooks, or spin the helmet like a rotor to hover briefly. Levels mix classic run‑and‑gun action with bizarre set‑pieces, such as the “Andy Asteroids” space‑race where Jim rockets behind Psy‑Crow, a bungee‑style fighting arena, and a timed underwater maze that forces quick decisions. Eurocom’s handheld port had to compress the original 1994 classic into monochrome graphics and a tiny screen, leaving animation a bit choppy and the two‑button layout tricky to master. Despite those constraints, the game keeps the off‑kilter humor and boss roster – Hickboy, Psy‑Crow, Queen Slug‑for‑a‑Butt and more – intact, making it a memorable bite of nostalgic platform action on the go.
Storyline
In Earthworm Jim for the Game Boy, an ordinary earthworm is transformed when a mysterious super‑suit crashes from the sky. The suit functions as a body while Jim’s worm remains his head, giving him human‑like abilities. Instantly, a host of antagonists appear, all desperate to reclaim the powerful armor.
Jim’s adventure leads him across bizarre levels until he finally reaches Princess What’s‑Her‑Name. Just as the reunion seems complete, the princess meets a tragic end—she is crushed by a cow that Jim had previously launched into space at the start of the game. The absurd conclusion caps the quirky storyline.
