Play Choplifter III Online

Summary

The Game Boy version of Choplifter III is essentially a handheld port of the 1994 SNES shoot‑em‑up that continued the legacy of the original 1982 Apple II title. Interestingly, the portable lineage traces back to a Game Gear release that was actually a remake of Choplifter II, which was later re‑issued for the Game Boy under the same name.

In this version you pilot a rescue helicopter into hostile zones, scooping up hostages while juggling a strict passenger limit. The campaign is split into four chapters—jungle, desert, sea, and city—each containing four stages and peppered with miniboss encounters that keep the tension high.

Critics praised the handheld’s surprisingly crisp graphics and addictive loop, with GamePro calling the visuals "beautiful" and the gameplay "addictive." Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a solid 7.8/10, noting its appeal to fans of military‑style sims, while the Official Nintendo Magazine scored the GB version at 68%. Even years later, Total! remembered it in their 1995 Top 100 SNES list, ranking it 92nd.
