Summary
The Game Boy adaptation of Chase H.Q. squeezes the arcade’s high‑octane police pursuit into a pocket‑sized format, letting you step into the shoes of an undercover agent from Chase Headquarters. Before each run you receive a brief on the suspect’s identity and the make of their getaway car, then you race through a scrolling cityscape while trying to avoid collisions with traffic and obstacles. The core challenge is a tight clock: you must close the distance, then repeatedly ram the criminal’s vehicle until it finally gives out, all without blowing a tire or hitting a building. Every second you shave off adds a modest point bonus, and clearing a level without using a continue nets a hefty multiplier, echoing the arcade’s reward system. Though the original 1988 arcade hit spawned several sequels and spin‑offs, the 1990 Game Boy version (later echoed in the North‑American‑only Super Chase H.Q. of 1994) remains a faithful, fast‑paced tribute to the classic chase experience.
Storyline
Chase H.Q. on Game Boy puts you in the shoes of police officer Tony Gibson, a member of the Chase Special Investigation Department. Together with his partner Raymond Broady, Gibson pursues fleeing criminals behind the wheel of a black Porsche 928.
At the beginning of each level, Nancy at Chase HQ calls in over the radio to brief the team on the target and the chase details.
The arcade‑style storyline pits the duo against a roster of colorful villains. Ralph, the Idaho Slasher, drives a white Lotus Esprit. Carlos, a New York armed robber, pilots a yellow Lamborghini Countach. Chicago pushers chase in a silver Porsche 911. An L.A. kidnapper uses a blue Ferrari 288 GTO, and an Eastern Bloc spy appears in a red Porsche 928, listed as unidentified.
