Summary

Castelian, the Game Boy spin on the classic Nebulus, drops you into a dizzying vertical climb up a rotating cylindrical tower. You control Julius, a tiny creature who can both shoot at vulnerable foes and plant bombs on the tower’s peaks to clear a path. The tower’s rotation creates a pseudo‑3D illusion, so moving left or right shifts the whole world around you, making platforming feel fresh on a handheld. Contact with an enemy sends you tumbling down a level, so timing your jumps and shots is crucial. Once you reach the summit, a door triggers the tower’s self‑destruct and launches you into a quirky submarine bonus stage where you can blast fish for extra points.

Storyline

In Castelian for the Game Boy, you control a green creature—named Pogo in some sources and Julius in others—on a quest to bring down eight sea‑borne towers. Each tower is tackled one at a time: you start at the bottom, navigate obstacles and enemies, and climb toward the summit. When you reach the peak, you enter a door that activates the tower’s self‑destruct mechanism, then hop into a submarine for a bonus stage. In versions that include it, the bonus round lets you fire at various fish to rack up extra points; the ZX Spectrum edition omits this segment. The core loop repeats until all eight towers have been destroyed.
