Summary

When I first plugged in the Game Boy, Bubble Bobble Part 2 surprised me with more than just the classic bubble‑blowing formula. The static backdrops of the original gave way to colorful scenery—trees, sky, and changing vistas every ten stages—giving the platforming a fresh feel that echoes the era’s peers like Snow Bros. The controls stay true to the series, with the familiar B‑button float that lets you hover upward for a tactical edge. What sets the handheld version apart is its two‑player mode: instead of battling side‑by‑side, opponents alternate turns, turning each level into a little brain‑teaser showdown. While Power Unlimited rated the game at 75 %, noting it can feel simple and at times boring, they also praised its head‑cracking challenges and the reward of perseverance. It’s a solid handheld puzzler that respects its roots while sprucing up the visual palette for on‑the‑go play.

Storyline

In the Game Boy version of Bubble Bobble Part 2, the adventure follows a brave youngster named Robby. The opening scene explains that a mysterious skull has seized the villagers, trapping them in a state of peril. Determined to set them free, Robby ventures through the village’s twisted corridors and hidden chambers. Each level challenges him with classic Bubble Bobble puzzles and enemies, all while he works to liberate the captured townsfolk. The ultimate goal is to defeat the skull’s minions and restore peace to the once‑quiet village.
