Summary

BreakThru! on the Game Boy turns the classic tile‑matching formula into a frantic puzzle where every move feels like a tiny gamble. You steer a cursor across a crowded grid of patterned squares—each pattern standing in for a color—trying to link a piece to two or more of its twins so they vanish. When a block disappears, the remaining pieces cascade down and sideways, often opening up unexpected chain reactions before the clock runs out. The game throws in a few quirky helpers: an airplane block that slices a whole line in the direction it points, a dynamite tile that detonates its immediate neighbors, and even the option to drop a fresh batch of random squares when you’re stuck. GamePro noted that the ability to reverse incoming blocks adds a strategic twist, but the tiny, pattern‑filled bricks can be a visual strain—something the Super Game Boy’s larger screen eases considerably. Despite the eye‑tax, the frantic pace and oddball power‑ups keep the handheld version surprisingly addictive.
