Summary
Daedalian Opus (Adventure! Puzzle Road) feels like a handheld tangram marathon, with 36 island‑based challenges that demand you rotate, flip, and jam pentomino pieces into ever‑weirder silhouettes – from simple rectangles to rockets, guns, and even giant versions of the pieces themselves. Each puzzle is timed, and once the clock starts you can’t pause, which makes the trial‑and‑error feel surprisingly tense on the tiny Game Boy screen.
You begin with just three pentominos, and a new shape is handed to you after every early victory, eventually giving you the full set of twelve. The climax hands you a thirteenth piece – the 2×2 square tetromino – and forces you to fill an 8×8 grid, a satisfying nod to classic block‑fitting games.
After each island you receive a four‑letter English word as a password; guessing common words can even let you skip ahead. The word “ZEAL” is the secret that opens a level‑selection screen once you’ve beaten the final stage.
A dedicated fan port landed on the MSX in 2006, and the puzzle’s DNA shows up in later titles like Puzzle Fever, proving the concept still clicks with modern puzzlers.
