Summary
Bonk's Adventure (known as GB Genjin on the Game Boy) lets you swing through prehistoric levels using the hero’s trademark, invincible forehead. A simple three‑heart health system turns blue as you take hits, and you can replenish it by gathering fruits, vegetables, or the occasional red heart—large ones restore all health, while rare blue hearts expand your maximum. The real spice comes from meat power‑ups: small meat upgrades you to a stun‑ground pound, and big meat pushes you into a temporary invincibility phase; eating more meat resets the timer and can stack the effects. Enemies are knocked back and airborne with each bonk, rewarding you with points and smiley icons that tally for a bonus at the end of each stage. The game also hides extra lives and hidden items, encouraging exploration of its quirky, trap‑filled jungle while you master the rhythm of head‑butts and power‑up timing.
Storyline
Bonk's Adventure on the Game Boy drops players into a whimsical prehistoric world where everything feels both ancient and cartoonish. You control Bonk, a strong, bald caveboy who punches his way through hordes of anthropomorphic dinosaurs and other stone‑age foes. The bright, side‑scrolling levels are packed with quirky enemies that match the game's light‑hearted tone.
The core of the story is a classic rescue: the tiny pink Plesiosaur‑type Princess Za has been snatched. King Drool, a massive green Tyrannosaurus‑type tyrant, is the kidnapper and the final boss. Bonk’s quest is simply to chase Drool across varied terrain and bring Princess Za back safely.
Along the way, Bonk’s raw strength and his signature head‑butt are the only tools needed to overcome the challenges. The narrative stays straightforward, letting the colorful graphics and catchy chiptune music carry the charm. In the end, rescuing Princess Za restores peace to the fictional prehistoric era.
