Summary

Bomb Jack on the Game Boy packs the original arcade’s frantic platforming into a handheld marathon of 60 stages, each offered in three difficulty levels. You guide the pint‑sized, explosive‑looking Jack as he hops, floats, and lights the 24 red bombs scattered across five distinct screens, from classic platform‑filled stages to the odd level that’s just a floating arena. Every bomb you collect lights up in sequence, feeding a top‑screen bonus meter that, when full, spawns a bouncing "P" which temporarily turns all foes into collectible coins.

The enemies—birds, mummies, and their shape‑shifting cousins like saucers and orbs—keep the pace relentless, morphing whenever they hit the bottom of the screen to give Jack new ways to be caught. Power‑ups appear as letters: "B" boosts the score multiplier up to five‑fold, "E" grants an extra life, and the rare "S" hands you a free game. These bonuses, plus the occasional special reward for gathering 20‑23 lit bombs at round’s end, make each run feel like a high‑score chase for both newcomers and seasoned arcade fans.

Even though the Game Boy version earned a modest 65/100 from Game Zone, its blend of tight controls, ever‑changing enemy patterns, and layered scoring incentives still captures the original’s addictive charm, proving that a tiny cartridge can hold a surprisingly explosive challenge.
