Summary

Blaster Master Boy is a handheld action title that landed on the Game Boy in the early ’90s, borrowing the name of Sunsoft’s larger franchise while keeping the same core experience across all regions.

You guide Jason—without his usual tank, Sophia—through side‑scrolling stages, firing a gun and planting bombs to clear enemies and break walls. Power‑ups let you upgrade weapons, and three distinct armor sets transform Jason’s look and abilities, while each level ends with a locked exit and a boss waiting behind a key.

The game is actually a sequel to Robowarrior, a Bomberman spin‑off from Hudson Soft, but Sunsoft rebranded it for Western markets to fit the Blaster Master banner. Aside from the title swap, the Japanese and North American versions are identical.

Hardcore Gaming 101 called it a decent, if unremarkable, Game Boy offering and suggested the name change was meant to echo the overhead stages of the original Blaster Master series.
