Summary
Bikkuri Nekketsu Shinkiroku: Dokodemo Kin Medal (known abroad as Crash ’n’ the Boys: Street Challenge) turns the Game Boy into a chaotic Olympic arena where five high‑school teams battle across five wildly unregulated events. You pick a team of five athletes, each with quirks that make them shine in certain contests, then spend the medals you earn on power‑ups in the mall before the next challenge. The lineup mixes classic track and field tests—400‑meter hurdles and hammer throw—with off‑beat showdowns like roof‑top jumping and a mid‑air umbrella brawl that replaces the original swimming event.
Head‑to‑head events follow a single‑elimination bracket, while individual events are scored on points, forcing you to balance spending against the ultimate goal of hoarding the most medals. A hidden cheat unlocks the usually CPU‑only Oklahoma High School, adding a surprise fourth roster.
Although the Game Boy version stayed Japan‑only at launch, the title resurfaced on Wii Virtual Console, 3DS, Wii U and later on Switch, Xbox One and PS4 as part of the Double Dragon & Kunio‑kun retro bundle, letting new fans experience its quirky sports‑fighting blend.
Storyline
In Bikkuri Nekketsu Shinkiroku: Dokodemo Kin Medal, the story picks up after the events of Downtown Nekketsu March: Super‑Awesome Field Day. Mamoru "Todo" decides to host another sports competition with the secret aim of finally beating Kunio. Meanwhile, Theodore "Todd" Thornley IV, still smart‑alecky after being humiliated by Jeff "Crash" Cooney and his Southside High crew at the All‑City Track Meet, throws down a challenge to Crash. He invites two elite high‑school teams and a wealthy‑father‑sponsored squad, effectively stacking the odds against the Southside boys. If the player guides Crash’s Southside High to victory in the Street Challenge, the ending shows Crash meeting Todd’s father, who offers a peace overture that Crash doubts will ever be accepted. Todd then tries to sow discord by sending flowers and a false rumor, only for the team to trash the flowers and leave a note calling Todd a loser, cementing Crash’s respect. Furious but impressed, Todd and Crash finally agree to settle their rivalry on the ice during the upcoming hockey season.
