Summary

The Game Boy entry “Battletoads in Ragnarok’s World” hit shelves in 1993, sporting a fresh subtitle to keep it separate from the earlier handheld Battletoads cartridge. It drops a handful of levels from its console counterpart and boils the experience down to solo play—no passwords or save spots to fuss over.

You start with three lives that are refilled each time you continue, and a six‑point health bar that munches on flies for extra stamina. The basic punch can be upgraded to the flamboyant “Kiss‑My‑Fist”, while a running head‑butt escalates into the dreaded “Battletoad Butt”. Certain stages hand you vehicle gear—Jet Turbo, Space Board, or Speed Bike—turning sections into frantic races or obstacle courses.

Special attacks like Turbo Thwack and Nuclear Knuckles surface on the harder screens, giving a brief edge against the Psyko Pigs, Mutant Ratpack, and Robo‑Manus. All in all, this compact version packs the signature chaos of Battletoads into a portable format that still demands quick reflexes and a greedy appetite for flies.

Storyline

Battletoads in Ragnarok’s World opens with Professor T. Bird piloting the Vulture to escort Princess Angelica to her father, the Terran Emperor. When Pimple and Angelica stray in Pimple’s flying car, the Dark Queen’s ship Gargantua ambushes them and drags them underground on Ragnarok’s World. A distress signal sends Rash and Zitz to the surface for rescue.

The toads drop into Ragnarok Canyon, a desert guarded by axe‑wielding Psyko‑Pigs and rideable dragons; they defeat the Tall Walker boss by reflecting its boulders. Descending into the vertical Impact Crater of Wookie Hole, they dodge raven‑snatching cables, Saturn Toadtraps, wall‑emerging Retro Blasters and 2,000‑volt Electro Zappers.

Ride stages follow: Turbo Tunnel forces the heroes onto a Speed Bike through stone walls, Surf City puts them on a “Space Board” over water while battling Big Blag, Volkmire’s Inferno has them flying on Toad Plane through fire and rockets, and Clinger‑Winger sends them while a Buzzball pursues them, ending with a Buzzball boss fight.

After a platform‑heavy climb up the rotating Revolution tower, the Battletoads confront the Dark Queen, defeat her and watch her flee as a whirlwind. With Pimple and Princess Angelica rescued, the crew returns to the Vulture and blasts off from Ragnarok’s World.
