Summary

The handheld version of Asteroids landed on the Game Boy thanks to Accolade’s early‑90s effort.
While European gamers got it in ’92, it didn’t see a global push until ’95, when it arrived paired with another arcade classic, Missile Command, as a two‑in‑one cartridge.
This bundle let players experience two distinct space‑shooters without swapping carts, a nice convenience for the original gray‑screen device.
Even though the portable screen couldn’t match the vector glow of the arcade, the Game Boy adaptation kept the frantic asteroid‑dodging loop that made the original a staple of any arcade floor.

Storyline

In the Game Boy version of Asteroids, you take control of a lone spaceship pilot trapped in a massive asteroid field.
Your photon cannon blasts the tumbling rocks, and only when every asteroid is vaporized can you advance to the next round. Each cleared field ramps up the speed and number of incoming debris.
Adding to the chaos, an Alien Robot Saucer appears, firing randomly across the screen and forcing you to dodge while you continue your bombardment. Surviving its attacks while maintaining a perfect asteroid clear is the core challenge.
