Summary

Asterix (Game Boy) is a 1993 side‑scrolling platformer that brings the famous French comic to a handheld. Players guide the short, mustached Gaul through European‑themed stages, using jumps and the magic potion to overcome Roman soldiers and a variety of hostile wildlife. Because the cartridge was coded for PAL hardware, it only saw distribution across Europe, never officially reaching the U.S. The graphics squeeze a humorous art style into the Game Boy’s four‑gray palette, and the soundtrack adapts recognizable motifs from the series. Though simple by modern standards, the title is remembered for its brisk difficulty curve and faithful nods to the comic’s slapstick tone.

Storyline

Asterix on Game Boy drops you into 50 BC, a time when the Romans have occupied Gaul. A tiny Gaulish village survives thanks to a magic potion that grants invincibility. When the Romans capture Obelix and whisk him away to an unknown location, the player‑controlled Gaul must set out on a rescue mission. The journey takes you across a stylized Europe, from forests to deserts, confronting Roman soldiers and hostile wildlife along the way.

The clock is ticking, because Caesar plans to throw Obelix to the lions if the hero isn’t rescued in time. Each level blends platforming and combat, letting you use the potion’s power to overcome enemies. The game’s story stays true to the comic’s humor while delivering a clear objective: save Obelix before the Roman spectacle begins.
