Summary

When I dusted off my old Game Boy, the portable version of Asterix & Obelix instantly felt like a mini‑adventure through Gaul. The side‑scrolling action is tight, letting you dash, leap and smash with the signature giant menhirs, whether you pick the quick‑witted Asterix or the muscle‑bound Obelix. Every level swarms with Roman legionaries, and the simple attack system makes a satisfying rhythm as you mash the B button. What surprised me most was the hidden two‑player mode that swaps the handheld for a shared keypad, letting a friend join the chaos as the other hero. Even in the limited palette of the original Game Boy, the quirky humor and frantic pacing still capture the spirit of the comics.

Storyline

The Game Boy title Astérix & Obélix drops you into a classic Gaulish adventure. You begin by choosing either Asterix or Obelix and wander through a sleepy village, a dense forest, then set sail across the sea to reach Britain. From there the journey expands across several historic lands—Britannia, Helvetia, Grecia, Egyptia, and Hispania—each level echoing a beloved comic book story. The British stage mirrors *Asterix in Britain*, the Swiss segment follows *Asterix in Switzerland*, the Olympic arena is lifted straight from *Asterix at the Olympic Games*, the Egyptian chapter recreates *Asterix and Cleopatra*, and the Spanish trek draws on *Asterix in Spain*. All of these settings blend the series’ humor with the handheld’s side‑scrolling action.
