Summary
The Game Boy version of Animaniacs, ported by Factor 5 in 1995, packs a surprising amount of personality into its tiny cartridge. Because of space limits, only three levels made it in – the sci‑fi Space Wars stage and most of the Action Movie segment are gone, and the final boss fight against Pinky and the Brain only appears on Normal and Hard difficulty. The Super Game Boy adds a unique soundtrack, making it one of the few handheld titles to fully exploit the accessory.
You switch between Yakko, Wakko and Dot, each with a distinct ability: Yakko’s paddleball stun, Wakko’s mallet for switches and crates, Dot’s kiss‑blow for hidden triggers. Health shows as animated faces on the top left, and a collection of stars or golden head‑icons grants extra lives. Levels are timed, and while the pacing can feel slow and trial‑and‑error, the graphics, audio and the show’s irreverent humor shine through, preserving the Animaniacs spirit on the go.
Storyline
In Animaniacs, the Warner siblings—Yakko, Wakko, and Dot—decide to open a hip‑pop culture shop to get closer to their favorite movie stars. To stock the shop, they dash across the Warner Bros. studio lot, hopping from one iconic movie set to another in search of memorabilia. Each level challenges them to locate and collect a specific piece of film history, turning the lot into a treasure‑hunt playground. Once the trio gathers the full collection, the scheming duo Pinky and the Brain make a surprise move, trying to swipe the items for their own world‑domination plot. The game’s story pits the mischievous siblings against the brain‑seeking rodents in a race to protect the prized memorabilia.
