Summary

The Game Boy version of Animaniacs, often just called the Animaniacs GB port, was handled by Factor 5 in 1995. Because of the handheld’s limited memory, the game only includes three of the original levels, and even those are trimmed—most of the Space Wars stage and almost the entire Oscar movie level are missing. I love how the title makes full use of the Super Game Boy, unlocking a special soundtrack that you can’t hear on a regular Game Boy. Gameplay revolves around swapping between Yakko, Wakko and Dot, each with a quirky ability: Yakko’s paddleball, Wakko’s mallet and Dot’s kiss‑blow, which are essential for solving puzzles and clearing obstacles. Health is shown by the characters’ faces at the top left, changing from smiling to weary as you take damage, and you can replenish it with ice‑cream‑themed items. Though the controls feel a bit sluggish and the design leans on trial‑and‑error, the graphics, audio and the show’s trademark humor manage to shine through, earning the handheld a modest 62 % aggregate score.

Storyline

In Animaniacs, the Warner siblings—Yakko, Wakko, and Dot—decide to open a hip‑pop culture shop to get closer to their favorite movie stars. To stock the shop, they wander the Warner Bros. studio lot, hopping from one movie set to another to collect iconic memorabilia. Each set presents its own quirky challenges as the trio gathers items to sell in their new store. Just as they finish collecting everything, the scheming duo Pinky and the Brain try to swipe the loot for their own world‑domination plans. The siblings must outwit the lab mice and protect their hard‑won treasures.
