Summary

I stumbled upon a curious piece of Game Boy history: Adventures of Pinocchio, a prototype that never saw an official release. It’s essentially a beta version of the later Ottifanten puzzle‑action game, sharing the same isometric levels and even the soundtrack. The build that leaked online shows 115 separate stages where you guide Pinocchio to an exit arrow before the timer expires, earning points for every second left. Reach 500 points and a fairy grants an extra life—though oddly, the life counter never actually decrements, so you can’t truly lose. Internally the project was codenamed “Infrey Quest,” hinting that Bit Managers originally tried to launch an original IP before repurposing the engine for Pinocchio and eventually for Ottifanten. Because Bit Managers never listed this title on their site, it’s easy to mistake the prototype for a legitimate Game Boy release, but it remains an unreleased, fan‑circulated curiosity.

Storyline

In Adventures of Pinocchio (Proto) for Game Boy, the player controls Pinocchio whose main objective is to reach the arrow on each screen, which serves as the exit and advances him to the next level. As the player progresses, a hidden counter tracks the number of arrows reached; when it hits 500, the Fairy appears and grants Pinocchio an extra life.
