Summary

World Destruction League: Thunder Tanks drops you into a grim future where the biggest spectacle is a tank‑based demolition derby. You can choose from twelve distinct competitors, each piloting a uniquely armed tank, and battle through 35 events spread across seven obstacle‑filled arenas. The environments are destructible, letting you blast through buildings to carve shortcuts, while a roster of over twenty weapons and four power‑ups keeps the chaos fresh.

The core loop feels like a hybrid of Twisted Metal’s arena carnage and Vigilante 8’s flag‑capture mechanic, but every vehicle is a tank, giving the combat a heavier, more explosive feel. Fans of the early‑2000s Battletanx series will recognize several tank designs lifted straight from that franchise, including a cameo mototank and the reversed M‑80 Skorpion Bomb Tank from the PS1 version of Battletanx: Global Assault.

Despite its ambitious premise, the title never gained much traction. It was among the first PlayStation 2 releases, yet critics called it short, unoriginal, and lacking the multiplayer spark of contemporaries like TimeSplitters or Unreal Tournament. The PlayStation version fared even worse, earning largely unfavorable reviews.
